Also popularly known as a Cosmo, a cosmopolitan is a cocktail traditionally made with vodka, Triple Sec, cranberry juice, and fresh-squeezed lime juice or sweetened lime juice. The original cosmopolitan recipe was reportedly based on vodka citron, lemon-flavored vodka.

The cosmopolitan is a drink with timeless appeal, from the creation of the drink in the 1970's it has appealed to each new generation of cocktail connoisseurs.

How to Make a Cosmopolitan ( traditional ):
The cosmopolitan is usually served in a martini glass and for a simple traditional serve mix 2 parts lemon vodka to one part triple sec combined with one part cranberry and the juice of half a lime. Cointreau or other high-quality triple sec provides a cleaner taste than cheaper triple sec, and is generally substituted in the cosmopolitan.


  • Wet the rim of a chilled cocktail glass with cranberry juice and dip it in granulated sugar.
  • Put ice in a cocktail shaker.
  • Add the vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice and Cointreau to the ice.
  • Shake twice
  • Strain into the cocktail glass
  • Garnish with a lemon twist.
